Welcome Sharon Detweiler to the TDA Staff!
Let's all give a big welcome to Sharon Detweiler, the newest member of the TDA Staff! 💜
Sharon Detweiler has been teaching dance for the past 25 years, and has been a student of dance for the past 35. Her formative training was with Wayne Blatt of The School of Classical Ballet of Rochester, and with Cayla Allen. She continued her training at Broadway Dance Center and Steps on Broadway, as well as with Lisa Taylor. She is a grade IV teacher member of the Cecchetti Council of America (CCA), and a Post Graduate of Dance Masters of America’s (DMA) Teacher Training School (TTS), where she studied how to teach ballet, tap, jazz, modern, and acrobatics. She is certified by test to teach through DMA’s TTS, as well as The CCA.
Miss Sharon has danced, taught, and judged throughout the US, UK, and Canada, and regularly guest teaches at conventions, studios, and colleges. Miss Sharon was the ballet director at Dance 22 in Rochester, NY for 10 years, and for Cynergy Dance Company in San Antonio for the two years she lived there. She continues taking weekly classes with Lisa Taylor, and yearly courses in teaching the Cecchetti method. She also regularly presents students for Cecchetti examinations.
Miss Sharon’s former students can be seen dancing professionally on TV, in companies, on Broadway, and on cruise ships, and have been accepted to numerous dance programs including Point Park, SUNY Purchase, University at Buffalo, and University of the Arts, Philadelphia. Miss Sharon loves sharing her passion for dance in a nurturing and positive environment and is thrilled to teach at Tonawanda Dance Arts.
Miss Sharon will be available for private lessons for select ages over the summer! This is a great opportunity to strengthen your ballet technique, pointe readiness, pointe work, and more!
